Your HD is larger than 8Gig; that's what the error message is telling you. Your HD, you say, is 8.4Gig...

http://www.windows2000faq.com/Articles/Index.cfm?ArticleID=13894

tells you what to do.

It's from John Savill's FAQ's at:

http://www.windows2000faq.com - part of the http://www.win2000mag.com web-site.

It's worth a read through John Savill's FAQ's - Installations section - for all manner of W2K/NT (and '9x/ME) issues and help.

I think it could be that you are trying to install NT as FAT16 File System (FAT16 only supports drives up to just over 2Gb.)
If your drive is 8.4Gb and is not partitioned it will be formated as FAT32 NT 4 does not like a FAT32 file system.
When installing if I remember correctly it asks you if you want a FAT (FAT16) or NTFS File system.
You need to select NTFS this will reformat your drive from FAT32,
NOTE:
You can not access any files stored as FAT32 from NT4, but this should not be a problem to you as you will be formatting the full drive and (I presume) no second drive present on the system and also you don't intend to install another operating system that needs to share files.
There are ways to set the 1st Part of your disk (up 2.?Gb) to FAT16 and rest of your drive to whatever by using fdisk this would allow you to install NT as FAT
Hope this helps you
Geoff

He makes no mention of FAT32 or win 98...

NT4 can handle 4Gig under FAT16.

I have a pentium 200 mmx with 160 MB RAM, 2 HDD
1) with 20 GB space I made partition of it into 4 equal parts.(Primary Master)
2) 10 GB space with 2 partitions (Primary Slave).

I have win 98 installed and I want to install Win NT along with it. But there are certain problems that i am facing.
1)All the partitions have got FAT 32 file system and NT cannot recognise it.
2)Normal FAT cannot recognise space more than 2GB. I tried using partition magic in order to convert them into NTFS but I don't know what was the problem, it started showing me a lot of errors.
So could you suggest me the best possible way I can run both 98 and NT without formatting any of the hard disk nor deleting any partition.

Thanking you!
