Hi,everyone:
I have installed an os of windows98 on a primary partition, and another windows 98 on 2nd primary partition for work and research. And I use bootmagic to choose which one to boot when my computer first boot up. Yesterday I want to install winnt 4.0 to a new (third) primary partition which was created by pqmagic5.0, but when it copied all its file to it, when I reboot and chose winnt in bootmagic which was added by me manually, it halted. I've use atdisk.sys and atapi.sys extracted from service pack 6 to replace the counterpart file in the installation file folders, but it didn't work smoothly. My computer device is Celeron 633 with 694 mainboard, 20G 7200rpm HD. Who can tell me how to install and where the trouble lies. Email to victor_pan@sohu.com, Thanks.

NT will not boot is system files are (physically) further than 2Gig into HD (Boot-code boundary); NT will not boot if boot-partition is further than 4Gig into HD; i.e. total used/unused space (regardless of what's in it) in front of boot-partition must not exceed 4Gig.

Create NT primary as first (primary) partition, or the second as long as the primary 'ahead' of it is less than 4Gig.

Item 2.8 at the following link will explain a 'little' more...

1. your rearrange your partitions again by putting NT in the first 4GB, thus erasing the existing first-98 partition (this is to put what the other guru said into practice)
or
2. buy another harddisk and put this as master (NT will not install from 2nd harddisk ), and your existing harddisk as slave. After that edit Bootmagic settings to make sure that the entries are correct. (this can be very complicated, not sure it'll work)
or 3. get a window2000 which can dual-boot with a win98 of your choice, and get a new harddisk and install win2000 there, but boot from win98 by running setup of win2000 from win98 (dual boot after entering bootmagic)

PS: I quadruple boot with:
- Win95/NT
- Win98/2000
- Suse Linux 7.1
- Mandrake Linux 8

I'll be happy to help if you have further question.
