Hi,
I have formatted my harddisk using "format" from a Win 98 boot disk, and want to install Win NT Ws,....can anyone guide me on how to do this!?!?! Please!

Select your CD-Rom as the first drive to boot from on the BIOS
Insert the NT CD restart your machine and the inst. process follow the on screen prompts

John:
Did you format the drive with FAT or FAT32? If you used FAT32 then NT will not recognize the drive. Remember, NT only support FAT and NTFS.

Start again...
NT cannnot 'see' FAT32 - unless you use utils from sysinternals.com; and these are installed once NT has been properly installed.
Using either a DOS6.22 or a '9x boot disk;
Fdisk, remove all partitions; create a small FAT16 C: (Primary) partition; make it active; format/make it FAT16; make it bootable to DOS (run the sys C: command of the floppy at the a:>\ prompt). Create the Extended partition - do NOT format it.
(Make this C: drive around 150-250Meg.)Use the 3 NT set-up floppies to install NT.
When it asks (in effect) where do you want NT installation to go... point it to the Extended partition space; allow it to create a logical-disk upto 4Gig (max allowed at this time) and to install itself there. Install as FAT16 for now; you can go to NTFS later...
Apply the service pack (at least SP4).
Make the ERD for your NT installaton and keep it safe and current.Boot to NT and run up Disk Admin; access balance of Extended space on HD, and utilise as you wish (create additional logical-drive/s - FAT16 or NTFS).
Job done.
Having created the small C: FAT16 Primary, and installing NT into the Extended space, allows more options down the road (dual/multi-boot; recovery etc.).
DO NOT reformat the C: system (active Primary) partition. If you do - you lose access to NT. This is where NT has installed its boot/start-up files... It's also where any other M$ OS's will deposit/install 'their' boot/start-up files, if you add other OS's to your NT installation.
If your HD is larger than 7.8/8Gig then you will need to address tht issue too; visit John SAvill's FAQ's - installation section - at:
http://www.windows2000faq.com - part of http://www.win2000mag.com
and look for how do I install on a drive larger than 8Gig (or words to that effect).
You need an updated ATAPI.exe file; it's on SP4, 5, 6 (not 6a Update); and can also be downloaded via a link in John Savill's FAQ. (when the ftp site is working...)
John Savill also details how (one way) to install NT on the C: drive. I prefer the route I outlined above - more options etc...
