I'm looking to have multiple IP's on the same server, to the tune of thousands. I've heard that Win NT (and 2000) have a limit of 271 IP's that can be bound to it. Can anyone confirm/deny?

I may very well be wrong, but I think that you can only bind 4 IP addresses to a nic in NT.

You are ;)

Technet mentions this at http://www.microsoft.com/TechNet/winnt/reskit/sur_tcp2.asp

"Five addresses per card may be configured using Control Panel; however, more may be added in the Registry. For details, see the IPAddress registry parameter in online Registry Help. "

The specific article is http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q149/4/26.asp

It states that

"Windows NT 4.0 has no limitation on the number of IP addresses that can be bound to a NIC. The limitation is on system resources."

So theres your answer - beefier box = higher limit

Hope this helps

Always happy to help. Is that sarcasm I smell? ;)

It wasn't meant to be flippant on my side but on reflection I can see how you might have read it as such. Sorry for any offence.
