I recently got connected via a cable modem to the net. There were two options when signing up... The Elite package and the Elite Light package... I got the better of the two which claims a MAX transfer rate to 1024Kbps... (which is 128KB right)? Well... The fastest I have been able to download anything is around 12-16KB.. which is just less to a little more than a 56k modem (which is like 7KB right)? How fast do you guys modems go with this type service? Am I missing something?

Later,
-S

My cable modem downloads at anywhere between 5-450KBps depending on where I am downloading from. If you are maxing out at 12-16KBps you should talk to the tech staff at your provider about increasing your results...

I have @home at home and can download about 150k. At work we setup with bresan a 256k connection and can only do about 25k downloading. From what i was told the business plan are controled by the routers and they want you to buy more bandwith. the home system they do no do any flow control.

I'm not sure what the topspeed of a cable modem is, but I'm using Adelphia PowerLink. My friend Marshall lives "In town" and he gets on average 800K(yes, thats Kbps, SAME thing as KB, and 1024K(bps) is 1Mb, a 56k Modem is 56,000 BPS.. basically, 5.6k) I live 6 miles outside of town and I get 230k on average. So check with your providers.
