Does anybody know how to disable the sending of NET SEND messages? Without disabling the messager service?
Basically allowing the user to receive NET SEND messages but not allowing them to respond.
Thank you,

I don't believe there is a seperate service for sending messages as opposed to recieving messages. I am pretty sure that it is all the "messenger" service you must stop, but that prevents from recieving messages. So stopping the service does the opposite of what you want it to...you can still send but others can't send to you.
Sorry.

Yeah,
The 'Server' service in the list (even on workstations) is responsible for pushing data to other machines (acting like a server), you can disable this, but it would cause many other problems.
You need to step back and consider another approach to solving this issue.

Does the user require access to the command prompt? If not, disable the command prompt through policies and the user will not be able to send NET Send messages.

i tried renaming the net.exe file but the system recreates it after a couple of minutes. Thats self healing from microsoft. I am working on the solution lets see !!

Remove all permissions from net.exe. This will allow net send to be sent to this PC but when trying to use net send you will get access denied.

Folks, it is too easy,
1-Go to Start > Programs > Admin Tools > services
2-Double-click on the unwanted service to get the options for it
3-Click "STOP" to stop it if it is running
4-Change the start-up type from Automatic/Manual to DISABLEDIn this case, the service you want to disable is Messenger. It is the service that manages net.exe
This tip, and many more registry tweaks can be found at http://www.retestrak.nl Just enter the site and click on OS Tweaks on the left. Greetz SnipeR !!

Ok, so now I have my last line of action, only if I absolutely have to. IS there a solution server side? The policy to dissable the command prompt is already configured, yet they somehow find a way in. High school students are too smart for me. So yeah, anything that doesn't require direct interaction with every computer would be a great help :)
