Hi,
There are 5 computers set up on a peer to peer network. Each is connected to the internet via dsl service, each with static IP address.
Here's the thing, sometimes our DSL service goes bonkers, and we need to have backup. One of the computer has a modem, and I want to know how I can share internet access through this.
thank you for reading.

There is free downloadable software on the net that will do that. You can also purchase software to do that. You didn't give any computer configs as far as OS, so I can't give you any more specifics.

To share Internet you need a computer with a modem or an other way to connect to internet
To share that internet connection the cheapest ( cause it will cost you nothing ) and easiest ( cause I tried it out for you and it works ) way is to install WINROUTER
and you can download it for free from my FTP siteftp: //24.132.5.109 - apps - winnrouter
greetings from Amsterdam

Hi,
thanx for the reply, that was very helpful. All 5 comps are using Win NT 4.0
We are setup with TCP/IP.
DHCP is disabled.
The five comps are connected to a hub, and that is connected to some kind of (I'm not very sure) some type of router or dsl connecting device of some sort.Anyway, thanks for being philanthropic, if I should ever leave the dark ages and learn something, I'll contribute in the future.

Try Wingate from Deerfield.
www.deerfield.com
If security is not an issue the "Home" version will suffice. It is relatively inexpensive and a doddle to setup.
If you run the Wingate Server on NT4 you will need to upgrade IE to 5.5.
We use it in our organisation on NT Server with mixed NT Workstation and W98 clients. No problems over ISDN but there may be a performance degredation over analogue modem.
