I am trying to setup a WinNT server to host a domain name and be an internet mail server. What kind of software do I need to do this. I already have a WinNT server setup with IIS 4.0 installed. Do I need to install MS Exchange server to accomplish this or does WinNT already support what I'm trying to do without additional software? I have approx 25 users that need e-mail and to have a 3rd party host our e-amil gets expensive. Do I have to register the name pop3.aidusa.com with Network Solutions or is this routed another way to the correct IP address? Any help or suggestions, escpecially step by step instructions or helpful websites would be greatly appriciated!!!

Thanx

AID

If you're just tryn to get your people to have email, internal and external, you dont need IIS 4, just install and figure the mailboxes on Exchange.....

You need to have a registered FQDN (Fully Qualified Domain Name) with your Internet Provider. Once accomplished, Exchange allows you to set the SMTP template for all its users - that is you stipulate your domain name and this information is then included within each users SMTP address information.

You of course need to ensure your SMTP mail is passed upstream to your Internet Provider's Mail server and vice-versa, they will probably need to know the presence of your server (more specifically, your servers IP address)

you will have to register with network solutions inc.

get a isp to be your gateway to Internet, they will also take care of your dns needs and provide you with and IP address (not needed if intend to dial in and get your messages.

Once you register your domain name with Network Solutions or Register.com, get your ISP to set up your email addresses. Most ISP's will give you some free email addresses, ranging from 5-100. Also, there are a lot of email programs for as little as $130, that will work well for 25-100 users. These email programs will allow you to provide privacy to your people by letting you serve mail to their individual desktops.
