I am configuring workstations at a local library, and several of the stations are Gateway 2000 machines. Upon booting the machine I get the "Gateway" cow logo with the message, "Press F1 to change system settings." I want to change this splash screen to something else (I don't want any kiddies messing with the BIOS on these machines). Can anyone tell me how to change the splash screen? I think there is a registry hack or something but it has been a while since I changed one and I can't remember how to do it.
The screen you are referring to is initial on bootup.. this is not the OS startup screen.. the best you can do is put a password to protect people from going into the bios and making changes. the GateWay splash screen is built into the computer itself.

AD is right, If this is the Vendor Bios Boot Up screen you can maybe (maybe) turn it off (with Quick Boot enable or turn Show Logo off on boot).
There are ways to customize the Vendor Bios Boot screen, but it's way envolved.
You can password (and Should) protect the BIOS.
You can change the Windows Boot Up Splash screen, but note this is different that the Vendor Bios Splah Screen. Good Luck

Try this search for logo.sys, rename to logo.bmp, then open with MS Paint, modify it as you wish, then rename it back to logo.sys. Lemme know if it works
