you cant change the mac address, it a unique address given to the network card makers how give it the address, there are no duplicate mac addresses in the whole world,

duplicate mac address would have a similar effect as having 2 pcs named with the same name.

Hi!

On some NIC's it is possible. But generally not, SS(sun) can do that.

It's burnt into the NIC - so it cannot be changed - to avoid multiple versions of the same address.

http://www.ntfaq.com/Articles/Index.cfm?ArticleID=23256 says:

A. Each network adapter card has a MAC address, which machines on local subnets use to talk to each other. MAC addresses are usually burned into the adapters during the manufacturing process. To overwrite a network adapter card's default MAC address, perform the following steps:

Start the registry editor (e.g., regedit.exe).
Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\\Parameters.
From the Edit menu, select New - String Value.
* Type a name of NetworkAddress, and press Enter.
* Double-click the new value, and enter the adapter's new MAC value.
* Click OK.
* Close the registry editor.
* Reboot the machine.

Seems to work on NT - haven't tried it on W2K Yet, but there should be an option in the user interface somewhere.
