Comment:

When booting up our NT server, we get a host controller configuration error. We have a scsi controller which I'm pretty sure that this error is related to, but I'm not sure what it's trying to tell us. We have 2 mirrored drives. If one of the drives went bad could it cause this error. Or is it possible for one of the connectors on the scsi cable to go bad? Just looking for some advice if not answers.

Thanks,
Sean

if winnt is booting (or trying to boot and failing, that is you get to or past the boot menu) then you probably have a failed drive. before proceding with ripping out a mirrored hdd connected to a scsi controller you really should know if the the mirror is hardware based (that is, your scsi controller is a RAID controller and you have hardware level RAID 1 array), or if you have windows nt performing software level RAID, i would honestly ssuggest getting a pro in to fix the problem because there is substantial risk. if you are feeling nervy and very secure in your backups and want to try for yourself:
here is microsoft's description of what you may have in place (sounds to me anyway)
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;167045
and you'll need a recovery disk:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;119467
if this is a compaq, hp, dell or other 'server' machine (like a compaq proliant) you may have a hardware RAID controller (but it doesn't sound like it because you'd probably have a hot-swap drive flashing red lights at you (if this is the case then that is the bad drive and thanks much for leaving that info out of your post...). this may also be the case if you purchased a desktop machine and stuck a heavy weight array controller in it (not likely), but if this is the case follow the directions on the particular manufactures website or call them for help. either way be absolutely certain that you know precisely which scenario you are starting from before attempting to recover, the operating system is in a perilous situation (but definately recoverable).

good luck!
