help pc is dead

Computer been going slow over past few weeks. Then today working on it. Something clicked. Screen flickered then it wouldn't open programs. Wouldn't open my computer and kept coming up with unable to open explorer.exe. Now it has died altogether. Can't startup. Put windows startup disk in it and is says that it hasn't detected any version of windows?????

Well. Kicked the base!!! At least it starts up now. Back to windows BUT I get the following errors when I try to click on Start / Iexplorer and My computer
"program error "internet explorer" generated errors will be closed by windows"
Can anyone help??
Also tried to get into outlook. Can see my emails but it keeps asking me to reinstall outlook???

Make sure the power cord is securely plugged into the computer.
Go to a cmd prompt and run chkdsk /f. You will have to reboot to run it.
Backup your data ASAP

How old is your HD? and what Service packs do you have on it?
it can't open My Computer, but it CAN open the start menu? That is odd, they are the same program. Opening it twice starts WIndows Explorer (in your case Windows NT Explorer) or My computer, which ever was clicked.
