Comment:

I wanted to let a really old PC running in my network. My first PC, a 486 with 16mb and a HD of 3.2 giga.

But ... I got the Windows NT 4.0 server CD trough my school...

So the setup started to run... began to copy new files to my formated HD, when finished it reboots and begins a hardware detection.

So it detects a CD drive, I press enter to detect hard disks...

And i says it doesnt find any HD!!!!

What the hell?

Can anyone help me plz?

nt server won't run on 16mb ram

been awhile since I did an NT install - but can't remember having to hit enter to 'detect' hard drives.

PS - standard IDE set up here? If you boot from win98 boot floppy, does that detect drive?

In dos mode the max partition size (fat16) = 2Gig; create/format a partition during NT setup and it can be a max of 4Gig.

You need to identify your ide controller and provide the nt driver via F6. Good luck!

I looked at the error again and it says this:
btw its a dutch version so i translate it,

"The cant find the hard disk partition which is prepared by the ms-dos setup"

I formated a 3.2 gig hard disk, booted from a startup floppy, and ran E:\i386\winnt.exe

So it asks me to make 3 floppys, i did and afther that it copies the files on the hard disk in a $win_nt$ dir or something.

Afther the setup copied the files to the hard disk it asks to reboot using the startup floppy 1 it made.

Then it detects my cd drive, then it tries to detect a hard disk i think...

Then the error comes up :(

I'll try to make a partition of 2 gig using Fdisk ...
