Is it possible to mirror and perform a stripe set with parity using hardware instead of software? If so, please indicate the advantages of either. Thank you.

The answer is Yes to the first question and the difference is that usually the hardware RAID controllers are more reliable. Advantages of software RAID is that it's cheaper (You don't have to dish out the money for the RAID controller)

Cost is usually the secondary factor (a rare situation) in deciding which type of raid to employ (H/W vs. S/W), the performance advantage gained by implimenting RAID in the Hardware is the primary reason one would choose H/W over S/W (i.e. In S/W RAID the CPU has the additional responsibility of maintaining the parity stripe in a stripe set, not so in H/W)
