Hi

I run NT4SP6a. I press CTRL+ALT+DEL to bring up the "Begin Login" screen. (It can tell if I try to login with the wrong password)

If I type in the correct password for the administrator account and press "OK" to login the system halts its login process.

The "Begin Login" window dissapear and I'm left with a mousepointer that I can move around. Num Lock etc on the keyboard works. CTRL+ALT+DEL doesn't work. If C+A+D had worked I could have loaded explorer.exe as a "new task..."

I've left the computer on for several hour but the system doesn't load my desktop or anything.

I'm not sure in which order things load after a successful login (but explorer.exe isn't loaded) I wonder which component handles the CTRL+ALT+DEL command ?

What else is loaded before explorer.exe ?

Anyone else that have had the same problem ?

If I try to be really really fast to type in the password then I can logon to the system 1 time out of 10.

Please help. ! I've tried to reapply the SP and I've used the ERD but nothing will solve my problem.

reply to rickefors@hotmail.com aswell as this forum tnx

This looks to be a 'service' that is failing. The services load whether or not you logon to the system, and they load during the login period. If you can get in again, look at the 'event viewer' which should tell you what happened. If you find an app that is failing and it is a service, you can disable it from startup in the control panel.

The eventlogs seems ok.

No stop messages.

But not all applications leaves traces in the event log. =(

Is there any way to tell when/why the system halts ? Perhaps there is some program that creates a more detaild view of the login process than the eventvwr ? Does NT store some kind of textfile log for troubbleshooting ?

I recently installed W2000 on a dual boot system with W98. I am having the same problem. Hangs after log in. I had a potential run in with the Funlove virus recently on W98 but it turned out that a recent update to my Mcaferey .DAT files caused the problem. Still no luck with W2000.
HOw do I check the event log???

Dear Friend's ,
This is exactly due to Funlove Virus . It affects all the windows system .
Download the Anti fun .exe and Fixfun from symantec or any other anti virus sites.I did the same and it's cleaning properly but only temporarily. What is the Permanent solution. Even Iam searching for a good solution rather than this.

Regards,
Krishnakumar.

I'm experiancing the same problems here, but only in a certain profile. Admin. and several others load fine. But just one person's profile hangs up. Ctrl-alt-del works and explorer.exe is at 98% of the cpu and never finishes loading.

Can funlove only affect one profile?
