Blunt question: Is NT 4.0 still a viable OS? A friend gave me the still wrapped software for NT 4.0 (purchased by his father, who died before installing it). I am currently having problems with XP Home, which I never really liked it to start with, and am thinking of just going with NT and, maybe, also sticking my old Win98 back on (in a separate partition, of course). But I seem to recall numerous reviewers back in the mid- and late-90s mentioning NT having problems with compatibility/drivers.
No USB for NT4; some utils 'may not' run under NT4; some add-ins 'may' not have NT drivers available; most standard apps. will run in NT. Generally apart from USB issue I've had no problems with NT. I have '98 and W2K around for USB if needed.
I guess it all depends on what you want to run/do.
Is NT a viable OS? It's still in general use - although W2K is slowly taking over.
You have it (NT4) - why not set up a dual/multi-boot with NT/'98 and perhaps include XP as well. If willing to start afresh there is a way to set it all so each is in its own partition/logical-drive; shared data etc. Then you can have the choice of OS to use for whatever reason?
Well I use all of the os's and my choice is by far win2k. It supports usb and the stability of nt. I like nt but you have to do a little research whenever you want to add something. Aloha
Thanks for the info/suggestions. As I like to play with different OS's, and since XP is causing problems right now, I think I will reformat, and install NT, XP, and (maybe)98. Man, I love these huge and low cost Harddrives! Will likely even stick Mandrake or RedHat back on. Thanks again!
