Comment:
Currently have server running nt 4 and workstations visible. Having set up a workstation for imaging purposes I am having difficulties creating a ghost boot disk in order to send the image back to the server.
I understand that I have to boot the station to DOS with a floppy so that it can run ghost as well as see the net server. The network card I have installed on the client station is an Accton EN1207D, series PCI Fast, Ethernet. How do I produce the boot disk with the correct settings ? I have over 60 workstations to set up ? Is there any other way around this problem ? Any advice welcome.
You will need to have TCP/IP for DOS loaded on the bootdisk. You can get it at Microsofts' website. Also, contact the tech's at Symantec. I had a couple of problems with this also and they were very helpful.
We have also had some problems setting up a boot disk to a NT server, there are a few other ways that you can do this, 1st is get a CD burner and burn the image on the CD, you can make a bootable diskette that loads the CD drivers and then actually starts ghost and calls the image file so that there is no user intervention required just put the CD in,,,diskette in turn machine on and the image is on its way, and if you cant get a burner, then the other way is not so pretty but you can get a slave hard drive and open the machine and put the 2nd hard drive and ghost it and then take the other drive out.
Paul, there is a really easy way to make a network boot disk. Go to www.ntfaq.com and just type in network boot disk on their search engine. It will provide you step by step to setup a network boot disk even if NT doesn't carry a network adapter. I had the same scenario of 100 workstation and this process really speed things up. Good luck. If you can't find any information. Send me an email and I will help you out. Good luck!!
