I have an Optima 15" monitor. It has worked fine till now. Lately after it has been on a while it starts to go fuzzy but only enough to make reading very hard and no worse.
I've tried adjusting the controls and NT Control Panel Display Sttings.
Can I remove the cover and make fine adjustments.

It is more than likely your focus inside the monitor and nothing to do with NT. If you are brave enough to open the monitor, then get yourself a white marker. Inside the monitor are smallish round things that have holes for screwdrivers...these are called potentiometers....now make sure you are using plastic screwdrivers, as magnetic ones cause deflection and any metal ones conduct.
You will have to make the adjustment when the monitor is on!! as any adjustment made when it is off will be hard to percieve....this is where the marker comes in....use it to mark each and every potentiometer you adjust, so you know where the origional setting was!....adjust one at a time and observe the result, if it is not the focus, turn it back to the initial setting.

OK here is the big warning....the circuit board at the back of the tube can have upto 50,000 volts give of take a few thousand....and will give you quick a kick or burn mark if you touch it...Also the base circuit board will have mains potential, much more dangerous, so exercise extreme caution!

Check to see if your monitor is under warranty as most carry 3 to 5 years now....or if I have put you off, then take it to some repair shop and expect to pay 30 to 50 bucks.....

any questions please mail me

Graeme,
Reading your advice from above I can't help but think about something right out of BOFH "...and then there was a brief scream and then a thud on the ground, as well as the smell of smoke..." :)

Anthony, I am actually tech qualified, and yes, you really do need the monitor on when adjustments are made. I mean if the man has the circuit diagram telling him exactly which potentiometer controls the focus, great.....however this is rarely the case as companies don't like other people fixing their hardware.

So maybe he will save a little money or maybe he will kill himself...either way problem solved =)

But if he follows the advice he should be ok....as long as he doesn't start checking for power on the board by using his tongue!
