Hi, my computer has a hard disk of 2.4 gigs and i want to organise it in only one partition but with a boot disk I can only format in FAT16 or FAT32 and for installing windows nt 40 i need to format in FAT16 or NTFS. If i format in FAT16 i can only use 2 gigs but i could use all my hdd if i knew how to format in ntfs with a boot disk. Anyone knows if there is a boot disk that allows you to format in ntfs?

Firstly if you make the NT4 install diskette set, then during installation process you can make the partitions required. Also NT4 can format FAT16 partitions to 4GB, though M$-DOS will not recognise more than 2GB, whilst FAT32 is not even recognised.

I know, but I want to format a partition directly into ntfs, not formatting first in fat16 and then converting. Thanks for the link.

The easiest thing to do is obtain a copy of Partition Magic boot disks. After booting from the disks, you will have the option to convert to NTFS and change sizes. Another thing to do is copy the convert.exe file from the WINNT\System32 folders to a floppy. By using a boot disk, you might be able to run the following command from the command line a:\> convert c: /FS:NTFS

If you use the NT4 install diskette set you are given choice of formatting as FAT16 or NTFS, you seem to want to make an issue out of a simple solution

I can't make the diskette set because i only have the i386 folder and when i do the diskette set, setup asks me for the windows nt 4 cd, i load my cd with only the i386 folder and setup doesn't recognise it.
Where can i obtain the Partition Magic boot disks?
