I AM TRYING TO FORMAT MY HARD DRIVE USING DISK ADMINSTRATOR. I GET AN ERROR "DISK ADMINISTRATOR CANNOT FORMAT A VOLUME CONTAINING WINDOWS NT SYSTEM FILES. HOW DO I GET AROUND THIS?

It sounds like your telling the system to format the drive the your system is on. Formatting deletes everything. If your tryn to start from scratch, u need to boot from a disk in A and Format C:, or FDISK from A.

I WANT TO COMPLETELY CLEAN OFF MY HARD DRIVE AND START OVER, GETTING RID OF WINDOWS NT AND LOADING WINDOWS 98.

You need to boot from a floppy and FDISK. What you are doing is trying to format your disk from an application which is on the disk that your are tryn to format. You can liken it to tryn to pick up a rug that you're standing on.

Remember when u do this, you're going to blow away the drivers for your CD. Get a boot disk that will install you CD drivers after you've cleared the drive.
