.exe problem on XP after blaster

I used AVG software to detect and remove the blaster worm. (norton did not see it) Now XP tells me that it cannot find whatever application I want to start if the applicatin is a .exe program. That includes pretty much everything, including control panel, media player, games, etc. Can anything be done to make XP see that all those .exe files are still there. Please any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

get out your WIN XP cd & put it in your drive.

go to START/RUN & type in "sfc /scannow"

That will find & replace critical system files with origionals.
