Exch 5.5 and SP4

I have installed NT4.0 Server as a BDC, than Exchange Server 5.5 .
Everything worked fine.
But, after I installed Exchange SP4, the MTA service could not start.
I downloaded the SP4 a second time, and installed it. I got the same result: the MTA service could not start.
Could someone tell me , how to fix this problem?
