Comment:

at boot of the NT 4.0 PDC server, an error message is prompted, the message in the event viewer is: The server service was unable to create the share 'user' because the directory D:\users!'user' no longer exists. Now i know that this message is generated if you delete a directory before removing the share that points to the directory. For the past deleted directories, how do i correct the situation so i don't get more error messages?

Perhaps you can restore from backup and then follow the correct order for removal? Maybe recreate the folder and share name then delete properly?

If you feel brave enough to edit the registry do the following:-

reboot the server and note down the exact share that it says it cannot create. Next bring up a command prompt and run regedit.exe

Initiate a search for the string and then just delete it. Press F3 to search for the next occurance and delete again.

Warning though!!!!!! Make sure that you only delete the erroneous entries.
