When I boot up my NT Wrk station 4 SP_6a machine this message goes in the event log:

The browser has forced an election on network \Device\Nbf_E100B1 because a master browser was stopped.

Anyone have any suggestions? THANKS!!!!

Hey, me too, but on my server! I have a small network at our school. Can't seem to find anything on the Mighty Microsoft Knowledge Base either.

This is a basic function of the NT network. Nothing to worry about.

Try searching the microsoft.com site, rather than just the KB. There's tons of info (at least 100 hits).

I also had the same problem and had an outside IT person in for another issue and he went in Start,Settings,Control Panel,Server, and removed some shares that were no longer in use. no more error.

I've had the same thing occasionally on a small NT4.0 lan with 2 servers (one PDC, one BDC) and it kicks my lan offline. I reboot the PDC and it goes away for a few months. I'll check out the unused shares fix. I also read that the router(s) in your lan may be forwarding UDP broadcasts between different subnets.

I also have the same problem. NetBEUI is knocked offline and then I have to restart the server(PDC) and it works fine for a couple of months and then we have same problem again. Any ideas?
