Hi
We have an email server setup with our ISP and we use outlook express to send and receive email from that.
What is the reason for an email exchange server gateway to be setup inhouse? (An exchange server is a server to route all incoming and outgoing mail to other server?I think thats what I understand it as. We have a lease line. Is it just for security, or traffic, or is it just to view other peoples email. We have about 100users.

If all your email traffic is to the internet there is no need for a Mail Gateway.
But since most email goes to groups and individuals it is better to have your own exchange server running, with an SMTP feed from your ISP. Thatway your local server will interigate all mail and route/reject accordingly also giving local virus protection.
Unfortunately you cannot use outlook experss on an exchange server network, you must use the grown up version outlook 2000
