Hi,
I have installed Win 2000. I have two partitions. The first partition, (C) is of NTFS file type and the second one (D) is of FAT 32 Type. So please tell me whether I have to give the SWAP space on C or D and how much I have to give for optimum performance? Please reply me as I am a beginner.
Lot of Thanks in Advance.
Bye.

If you have a dual boot set-up, then keep the swap file on the same partition as the OS.
If you only have one OS, then put the swap on the C: drive. I.E. The begining of the first partition, this is the fastest part of the HD and therefore will give the best performance.

Emmanuel, you didn't say what the partition sizes were, the one thing you don't want is for the swap-file to grow and fill the C: drive. As Mark suggested, it is better on the C: drive but what you want to do is set the min and max sizes the same and around 1.5 time the amount of RAM fitted should be plenty. You have 192mb so the smallest size you should set would be 256mb but 384mb would be better. You can track the usage of the swap file, the system will tell you what is currently being used and what the highest figure used was. From these you can then decide if the file is too big and free up space by reducing the swapfile size or to leave it.

Hi,
I am sorry for not saying the size of my C and the D partition. My C partition is 4 GB while the D drive is 8GB. So please tell me the best SWAP position and the minimum and the maximum size to be given to the SWAP partition.
Thanks for the information and please do reply me. LOt of Thanks in Advance. Bye.
