1.I tried to install windows 98 and Nt on my hard disk. I used partition magic to partition my hard disk. I tried to create two partitions. But it didn't allow me to create partitions larger than 2GB.I have a 20 Gb hard disk and I want to create larger partitions.

2. Do I need to use a special boot manager to create a dual booting system.

Where the partitions you tried to create FAT16? I'm thinking it was.

To create larger partitions use can use the Disk Administrator in Win NT. You're probably wondering how do you use that when you can't even create the partitions. Well, take heart - look at:

http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q243/8/96.asp

Just remember that you only can create one extended partition and that the win nt partition has to be below the 7.8G boundary.

After following the instructions to the link above, you can use partition magic to resize your partitions and even to take advantage of the extended partition:

using bootmagig to dual boot 98/NT

it may be your bios/motherboard has 1024cyl boundary for boot partritions, you don't say how old your system is. info for this look at documentation with part/magic. If you have a pirate copy search for info on boot boundaries.

simple way is load win 98 in 1.5GB partition at beginning of drive, then create partition after this using part/magic wizard at boot of page, it will ask you if o/s is to be loaded to this partition and you follow from there. Be careful as NT writes to Master Boot Record and can screw things up. Had a few probs but got 98/NT/W2K triple booting, wiped it though as I now have 98/Red Hat Linux dual boot.

good luck mick

#3279 on this NT forum tells you how to do it without PM - or any other third-party add-in util.... Credit to the chap who posted it ages ago.

deals with the fact tht you have a 'large' HD (larger than 7.8/8Gig).

It's from John Savill's FAQ's at:

http://www.window2000faq.ocm - Installations sections - part of:

Have good browse through John Savill's site whilst you're there; lots of useful info.
