i have my primary hardrive with 98 and a second as slave with NT 4 I would like to have the choice to boot either one.right now i can only boot the 98. is there anyone who can help me.
thank you!

Really need more info on how HD's are configured, and how '98 and NT were installed...
If each OS was installed when its HD was configured as 'Single MASTER only' HD, then I guess you might want to consider a Boot-manager option. But it would really help to have more specific info...
Boot-manager info:
http://www.webdev.net/orca/nojava/faq.htm

Easiest way would be to install WinNt again (I assume that both HDDs weren't connected when you installed). Install it on the second drive, it will put the boot files on the 1st drive, but the rest onto the second drive. Then boot up in NT (it will be default to do so) then edit the boot.ini file on the first drive. add a line
C:\Windows = "Win98"
then it will give you the choice which to load at startup using NTLOADER.If you installed NT first, then 98 you will need to run NT setup and select repair boot sector, because Win98 will have overwritten the boot sector.

For me it lokks like you choose fat32 for your Win98 Filesystem. NT does not know this system, and is therefore unable to find ntloader etc.
Solutions :
If you want to install everything again, you could make two partition on your first drive.
The first Partionion coulde be small maybe less than 50 MB. This Partiton should be formated with FAT. Now Setup your WIN98 on your second Partition of the first Drive. You are free to use FAT32 here. Now you can Repair your Winnt Installation ( no need for a complete reinstall ). Boot.ini,Ntloader, ntdetect etc now resides on a FAT Partition, both Operation system are now able to boot.
If you dont want the reinstall of Win98, you can place the nt files ( ntloader, ntdetect and ntbootdd.sys (only needed if you have a scsi hostadapter without bios-support) and your boot.ini on a floppy. Now you can boot your NT from floppy.

I have a similar setup . Here is the solution I use. If you have both your hard drives configured correctly you can enter the CMOS setup when you computer first boots and designate the drive from which you want to boot. I am not talking about the order from which you boot (removable devises, HD, CD ROM) but depending on what BIOS you are using... the settings can be changed from the boot screen, tab down to hard drive and press enter. It then should show both primary and secondary hard drives from which you can change the order from which you boot. May seem like a pain to do each time you wish to switch OS but only takes a matter of seconds and save you having to reinstall.

This should work since your already booting to win98. Go to the DOS Prompt C:\ and type this debug command: debug
-L 100 2 0 1
-n bootsect.f32
-rcx
-200
-w
-q
This will now make a file in your C: root directory called "bootsect.f32" copy this file to a floppy and now make NT active with fdisk. Boot-up to nt and open nt's dos screen. Do the following command at nt's c: prompt: attrib -r -s -h C:\boot.ini, this will remove the read only attributes from boot.ini. Now ust the edit command and edit the boot.ini and place the following line at the end of the boot.ini file. C:\bootsect.f32="Windows 98". Save and close the file and do the following: attrib +r +s +h C:\boot.ini, this will make boot.ini read only as before. Now copy the bootsect.f32 file from the floopy you made in Win98 to NT's C: root directory. Close the dos screen and reboot the system. When the system reboots you will now have a menu that will allow you to boot to NT or Win98.

P/S Correction on my last entry: Instead of using Fdisk to make NT active, make NT drive master and your Win98 slave, by changing both hard drive jumpers, also check your Bios setup. I hope I haven't confused anyone.
