I am installing a scanner canon fb620p and have the disk. It keeps stopping during the install asking for missing driver location, for FB62Pcpl.cpl

Whaaaaat the heck do I do NOW.
I have been to canon site and downloaded drivers from their site, but it still keeps asking.

I have the same problem as you with my Canon FB620P. I have not solved it, although I am able to use the device. MSPhotoDraw sees the scanner just fine, but the scanner is still not officially installed hardware in my system, and everytime I reboot my machine, I get this series of "new hardware found" windows prompting me to install a driver for my scanner... AARRGHH!
Have you solved this?

I have the same problem but am also getting an error 0x10ff0800 and I cannot use my scanner.

I had this problem before and the helpdesk fixed it but it has reappeared. I know that you have to have Still Image Services running if you are using W2k.

This is so frustrating. I re-installed the latest Canon ScanCraft software which supposedly installs the driver, but when I search my entire system for the file it is not there!

I am also having problems with my FB620P scanner. I have or had all of the problems mentioned above. To get rid of the 0x10ff0800 problem go into your BIOS setting and change your parallel port setting. These settings may be different so just keep trying the different settings.

To get rid of the new hardware found, just go through the wizard and skip all of the files that need to be installed. This won't solve the installation of the scanner but it will get rid of the new hardware found issue.

The problem I am now getting is "No Scanner Detected". Who knows.

I also haven't solved the problem so if anyone finds out how to, let me know. Thanks.

Well, Everything that has been stated above is all to true. The only thing that I can possibly figure out is that due to W2K, It does not recognize the fact that we are the system administrators of the computer. Somehow defaulting to a secondary user. It will not install the Twain Drivers on Winn file unless you are the system admin.
I still cannot figure this one out, I always log on as the system admin. and it still will not write the drivers to that file. If anyone has any answers, please contact me!

I'm joining the new club and giving up on Canon. They want us to pay for customer support when they have known for over a year that Windows XP was coming out. Their idea was for everyone to go out and buy a new scanner and other hardware that was not XP compatible. When are corporations going to wake up and realize that dissatisfied customers will not return.

I think the problem is the FB620P (P for parallel, sharing the printer port) is not really compatible with Windows 2000. Check the Windows compatibility site (http://www.microsoft.com/hcl/), and it says that this product is only compatible with Windows 98. When you try to install Canon's software (which lists Windows 2000), it wants to write to the Winnt folder, and Windows 2000 won't let this happen. The readme.txt file that comes with the Canon software mentions this, but it doesn't tell you how to do a work-around. I don't know why Canon hasn't come up with a fix. If anyone knows how to tell the operating system to grant write permission to the Winnt folder by the install program, this might work.

In the BIOS, try reconfiguring the LPT-port. It should be set to ECP/EPP. When this does not work try setting to "normal"

http://consumer.usa.canon.com/techsupport/faq/xp_scanner.html

I just started using XP and just loaded the scanner & toolbax drivers from this site and am so far scanning merrily. Good Luck!

I had exactly the same problem as everybody else on this page with my CanoScan FB620P
Moreover, my PC kept freezing on me with other programs as well. Cause: ZoneAlarm True Vector Service, which causes WinXP Pro to crash. I removed all ZoneAlarm files + registry entries manually (because the unistaller also kept crashing).

I then uninstalled CanoCraft + removed CanoCraft registry entries. I downloaded the latest version of CanoCraft and installed it and now everything works perfectly again.

For ZoneAlarm removal: see http://www.zonelabs.com/services/support_install_XP.htm (make sure to skip Step 4, which tells you to re-install ZoneAlarm)

A handy registry cleaning utility is to be found at http://www.webattack.com/get/regcleaner.shtml

I had e-mailed Canon support for help, but they "escalated the problem to Canon Europe" and I did not hear from them again.

Hope this is of some help to frustrated people out there.

Same problem under Win 2k Pro. Only solution I found under that operating system was to change my BIOS settings from ECP/EPP to SPP. Scanner now works but is in NIBBLE mode and is therefore S L O W. Scanner works perfectly in Win 98 and Win XP Pro with the ECP/EPP setting.

After reading all the suggestions and failing at each I finally manage to get the scanner to work in most programs I have on Windows XP Pro. Paint still dosen't see it but my Photo Express 2.0 and Photo Expressions did.
I'm running both WinXp and 98SE. I installed the 3.6.6 drives and toolkit on the 98. The FB62Pcpl.cpl file is actually created by Windows I think. Once back in XP. I reinstalled the scanner via device manager. When it asked for the .cpl I directed it to the windows/system folder for 98. You'll bounce between a couple of folders and a request for the XP cd and it ends on an "Unable to install hardware". Of course it dosen't show up under "scanners" in contol panel. Install the 3.6.6 driver and latest toolkit. MS Picture It 2.0 and Arcsoft Phote Empressions both found it. Paint didn't. I've also got a Concord Eye Q USB cam that dose't show up in the scanner/cam but works perfectly.
While trying different ways to install the scanner I've now got 5 image devices in the device manager and currently unable to delete any of them. Keep getting a "Windows may need device for boot up"
Hope this help someone out.

I had the same problem with my scanner. Are any of you having trouble with your microphones? I seem to be having trouble with mine. I'm getting a muffled sound whenever I play it back. I'm not sure if this could be related to the scanner not installing correctly, but I am desperate for answers. How is everybody else's mic working? By the way, I'm in Windows XP, if that's any help.

I am having this exact problem with the FB620P and I am running Win 98! (I never had these problems with my MAC, d'oh!) It keeps telling me the scanner is not being recognized, and after installing the drivers and software, I cannot locate it ANYWHERE on my system! I went to the Canon website and downloaded the drivers again, and they mysteriously disappeared after install ... any suggestions from those more computer savvy than I?
