Comment:

I have Windows NT 4.0 and Sound Blaster 16. Windows sounds work ok, but when I try to run DOS games on NT (like Doom, Wolfenstein etc.), there are no sound effects at all.

How do I change the sound card settings to hear sound effects of old DOS games?

The problem you are having, is that NT doesn't allow software to access to hardware directly. DOS games access the sound card directly, since there isn't any "gui" interface to handle the sound for them. This isn't allowed by NT, and therefore, you get no sound.

There are two utilities which aim to give you Dos emulation under NT.search for VDMS (Virual Dos Machine Sound)which is free and SNDFXNT which is trialware and costs £15 to register.I've not had too much luck with either but I may just be too stupid to set them up correctly
