Hi,
Just out of curiosity. I have a server with 2 GB of memory and checked that the page files size is also 2GB big.
Q1. With 2 GB of memory does one still need to set any page file ?
Q2. If Yes, why and what should the page file size ?
Q3. IF No, why ?

Yes you should still have a pagefile. As a rule your minimum pagefile needs to be the size of your memory plus 11. The reason for this is when NT crashes it dumps the contents of memory into the pagefile. It is also used to swap info from HDD to memory.(yes, even though you have 2gb of memory it is still used)The maximum size of your pagefile should be about 1.5x to 2x the size of your memory. 1.5x for clients and 2x for servers or powerusers. You can also increase or decrease your pagefile based on your needs. Check your taskmanager(under the performance tab) to see what your peak and limit Commit Charge is. From what I have learned in school and from collegues is that your peak should not reach too much above half of your limit commit charge. If your peak is consistently well under half of your limit, then it would probably be safe to decrease your pagefile. Pagefile size = Limit(Commit Charge) Hope that helps. If anyone disagrees feel free to post, I would be curious to hear other points of view.

Your 2GB RAM is something which I have not had the opportunity to 'see'. I doubt that any program will ever use all of the 2GB of RAM so if any paging is done it would be done in pieces much smaller than the whole RAM. It is therefore plausible to have a much smaller page file. As far as the core dump is concerned --if you get blue screened frequently-- then you can adjust the pagefile size accordingly to get the memory dump. However who reads them anyway.

Hi viva8ht,
Thanks for the reply, it's been very helpful at least clear some cloud for me.
Hi Jivesh,
Yes, no program will ever us 2GB of ram. However I'm running a lab supporting 150 PC and the SQL servcies that is running will suck up all the memory until to a point where on 300MB of available memory are left, the server becomes very, very slow.I tried to disable and enable the services and as long as the SQL release all those memory is used, the server will come back alive and kicking.
I just wonder this pagefile thing is of any use in this case.
Any more input ?
Jus to add a little more info, I'm running a NT4 Cluster SERVER.
