I have Windows 98 and NT 4.0 installed on seperate physical hard disks on the same computer. The NT drive is installed with FAT for compatibility reasons and I have no problems other than with my display. I use an ATI Rage Pro 8MB AGP 2x video card and have downloaded the drivers for NT 4.0. I went through the correct procedure of changing the driver in display settings in VGA mode from boot but after I reboot I still am unable to use more than the base settings (ex. 16 colors - 640 x 480 resolution). When I click the drop down arrow on the colors pallette the only option I have is 16 colors. I am confused because the system reacts to the new driver installation but still limits me to poor settings. I recently wiped out the physical drive with Win 98 and tried to correct the NT display but got the same results. With a new video card such as the ATI I am using I do not understand what the problem is. I have checked and the card is on the NT hardware compatibility list. Would appreciate any input. FYI - Dell Pentium II 400 system with Dell M780 moniter.

I feel your pain.
I have a similar "dual-boot" system - 2 hard-drives :-)
Seriously tho.
This should fix your problem:
1. go to: http://support.atitech.ca/drivers/drivers.html
2. get the appropraite drivers, you will want to get both and you'll probably want to get the NT drivers while in NT and 98 drivers while in 98 unless you have another computer networked to temp. hold the files.3. usually, you want to install the "standard vga" drivers that come with windows. Reboot (you'll be in 640x and 16color)
4. run the install program
(I've installed a few ATI cards and they've always behaved well - they make good cards and drivers - in my opinion).you should be set, make sure you have a quality monitor and the appropriate drivers (see mfr) or plug-n-play if it's new enough.
also read the readme that comes with the drivers... it should tell you what to do (what I've said above) and maybe some special instuctions (I know matrox does).
Good Luck
contact me if you have any problems
Sincerely,
Steven

When you tried to install the driver before,
you have to rename the ATI.sys or the ati.ini. to ATI.old . I don't remember wich one . They are lokated in /WINDOWS and /WINDOWS/SYSTEM32 .
Then install the good driver ( after SP4 for NT4 )
