Take a look at this Dell page:-
http://support.euro.dell.com/uk/en/filelib/system.asp?sid=PLX_PNT_P03_GX110&m=l&p=3
You'll find drivers for AD1881, AD1885 and SoundBlaster PCI 64v sound systems.
If you pop the case off the PC and take a look at the motherboard you should be able to read the identifiers on the top of the chips. If you can't see any chips with the name Creative on them you#'ve probably got the AD1881 system.

Go back to Dell's site and enter your Computer's Service Tag number. You should be able to get what you need from there.
I'm wondering though, didn't they send you a driver restoration CD?

Dell tend to ship only drivers for OS installed. I have Dell that came with '95c installed, added NT4 and had to go to the web-site for NT sound drivers.
A 'kind-hearted techie' at Dell support advised where etc... Dell techies are not supposed to advise on anything that wasn't part of the system as shipped out from Dell (unless it was purchased later from Dell, or added in via Dell).
