I install NT4 on this machine sharing net w/ other on my little home net. But are the C & D drives and the \Winnt folder supposed to be stuck as shared? They were like that after install and if I turn the shares off, they just return after a bootup or restart. Is it because I'm logged on as admin? I'd like to create a super user account or something but also use the same desktop settings. How would I do that? And turn off those shared drives?

These are the default admin shares. If you understand security these are of no concern. Someone would have to defeat the army, breach the moat, the castle and then defeat the inner guard before these were of any concern. You have to have an account and a password to access them.
do a google search if you want to disable them. It can be done.

Yeah, I found more info via Google since posting. They can't be seen by the other computers on my little home net anyhow.
BTW: This was the same machine I was trying to install on a 5GB drive (http://www.computing.net/windowsnt/wwwboard/forum/21044.html) and couldn't. I found a 3GB drive I had laying around, set that as master (w/ the 5GB slave), did a temp install there and formatted the 5GB true NTFS to full capacity in NT diskadmin. Reversed the drives again and did the permanant install on the 5GB & wiped the 3GB. Now all's working well far as I can see.

By default, if you delete the C$, D$, etc.. Administrative shares, they will be recreated when you reboot. To disable this feature, edit:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\LanmanServer\Parameters
Double click on AutoShareServer and set it to 0 to disable it for a server.
Double click on AutoShareWks and set it to 0 to disable it for a workstation.
If the entries are not present, Add Value of type REG_DWORD. The Range is 0 (disable) or 1 (enable - the default).
