Hi, I ahev recently got some copies of WinNT 3.1, 3.51 and NT4. However when i tried to install these eitehr in VPC or on an actual desktop I get the error message "Setup cannot install on the current processor" for all 3 versions. I thought ok fine maybe because I was using a 95boot disc (my copies aren't bootable) that might be the problem. But during setup NT states in all versions that it cannot copy banana.an_ (banana.ani). I thought that must be why it won't install. i manually copied the file over and renamed it with the boot disc and i still got the same error message. My machine specs are: VPC machine 1.1GHz P3Celeron, 512MB ram, 64Meg PCI geforce4, with virtual hard drive formmated 2047mb FAT16, virtual machine ram 64. Actual desktop 166MHz Cyrix 6x86MX, 32Meg DIMM (4x8meg),2 Meg S3Virge PCI, harddrive partitioned 3 2047meg FAT16, 8 meg F drive (it was the leftover space on the hd :P). Has anyone encountered this error before as i tried the Microshocked knowledgebase and didn't get very far. Thanks in advance Lupin3rd.
Apologies for bad spelling and grammer in the previous post (I forgot to re-read it afterwoods). Anyways I was only given the cd's without the boot disks. I thought a 95 one would do but as my knowledge of NT is limited to none, except for NT5.X (2K and Xp). Thanks for the link jessejames, I tried the MS Knowledge base and performed a search of the site but came up with some dead links (might've been the machine i was using might check again). But during setup you can create the setup disks, which I did for all 3 versions and tried a flopplyless install, same error message. PS I have now changed the machines processor to a Cyrix 6x86 233Mhz @ 75MHz Clock 2.9V clocked at 200MHz (I don't need any faster so I'm not bothered at missing 33MHz :P).
I don't know what virtual software you are using but normally you don't report a better system virtually then exists physically.
In other words you can't tell the VC that you have 512 ram when you have 32meg physically.
You are also compounding a known issue with the 6x86 dealing with the write cache.
Might try reporting the VC correctly [32meg ram, etc] and then try your install. I would suspect that when NT is trying to set the cache from write back to write thru, and not getting the correct cpu response, it is failing.
