Hi,

I just have a few simple questions for verification purposes. I have NT 4.0 Server loaded on a single PC set up as a PDC. I'm unable to open User Mgr, Server Manager or the Add User Wizard....network path not found in each case. Are these utilities supposed to be used on a separate, networked server or workstation by a person with Admin rights? Right now there is no network connection to anything else...totally isolated.

Nope, they should be on your PDC, and could be used from another networked server or workstation by a person with Amdin rights, when the Resource Kit utilities are installed.

So then each of these admin utilities works only after installing the Resource Kit?

If you look in the \winnt\system32 folder you should find:-
srvmgr.exe = Server manager
usrmgr.exe = User manager

If these programs aren't there do a search on the drive for them. If they still aren't there you'll need to get them from the NT4 install CD-ROM and they'll be in the \i386 folder.

All utilities/apps are where they belong. According to the first reply I need to have Resource Kit installed to use them. Somehow I don't believe that to be true. As stated in my first post, when I launch User Mgr or Server Manager I get a message about "Network Path Not Found" which seems to be a default error message. The PC isn't networked but the Apps are on this PC so it shouldn't give me this message.

I know that these utilities can be loaded and used on any NT/2000 machine. To use them it helps to have a working network connection and the required rights. I was logged in as Admin which happens to be the only active account on the server. I should be able to create a test group of users and groups but currently can not. SP1 was loaded by default.

Maybe if I put it this way you'll understand what I was saying the first time.

The Resource Kit utilities offer the ability to run the User Manager for Domains, Server Manager etc. from a NT Workstation or a NT File Server.

I created a Standalone server rather than a PDC and all utils worked as expected. Now to find out why the PDC selection is giving me trouble.
