Corrupt pst file

I have a user who is running Win '98 with Outlook '98. Their pst file became corrupt, which was detected by Norton Anti-Virus 2000. This user needs at least the Contacts restored, if not the whole pst file brought back. The corrupted file was renamed numeric (for example 567890). I scanned the file with Norton Anti-Virus before I tried to bring it back and there were no virus detected which I thought was unusual. When I tried to import back in, Outlook stated the file was not a pst file. When I did a properties on the file, the extension was a pst file. Does Norton change the format of a file when it detects a corrupted file.

I suggest to use system tools ->Inbox repair.Inbox repair is quite good to fix pst file problem. I allready use it and it works in my office. I also suggest you to backup your pst file and if you have a problem with that all you gonna do is restore and use your pst file again.
