copying NT4 partition to new HD without Ghost

Comment:
I've got an NT4 server 6GB hard drive that refuses to clone with ghost or imagecast (an error every time). I suspect a possible problem from having used PowerQuests' Partitionmagic 3.x on it a while back. Is there a way to use the resource kit program "robocopy" to copy the old partition to the new drive; or boot up into a clean copy of NT4 from another drive and copy that way?

Are you trying to Clone straight from DISK to DISK. Have you tried to make an Image of the partition you want to move first. Then write the Image to the NEW partition. If you can get the Image, you should be home Free... Let me know what happens..

Also with Ghost what version are you using? Is the NT system formated NTFS? Older versions of Ghost had a problem copying NTFS when launched no switches.
If you look on the symantec website you could probably locate the switch required or do a Ghost /? at cmd prompt.
Good Luck

Let's see.. Yes, I did already try doing partition->image with ghost 6.0 and enterprise; also with ghost switches.. Both partitions are NTFS (sp5); chkdsk with the fix switches works fine; turns up nothing drastic. Assuming ghost doesn't work; Powerquest suggested running their DriveImage 3.0 software; worth a try.. --Do you think robocopy would work? Thanks!

Try Ghost again, but use the command line "Ghost.exe -ntil"
