If your cable modem can connect to one of your computers with USB, I reccomend that.

1) You will need a network card in each computer.

2) After they are installed, you will need to install TCP/IP on each computer. Go into the TCP/IP Properties, and assign IP addresses. On the computer that is connected to the modem, give it IP 192.168.0.1, Subnet Mask 255.255.255.0 On other computer, assign IP 192.168.0.2, subnet mask 255.255.255.0

2) Assign each computer a computer name in the Network Properties. For example, the comp connected to the modem is MODEM, and the other is HOME. Give BOTH computers the same workgroup name.

3) Enable file and print sharing on both computers.

4) You will need to get cables to connect the computers, and a hub. These you can get relatively cheap at any computer store. YOu will need two cables.. one from each computer to the hub. Plug one end into the Network Card, the other end into the hub. When you do that, you should see a light on the hub recognizing each connection (assuming the computers are on)

5) On the computer that is connected to the modem, go to Control Panel -> Add/Remove Programs -> Windows Setup. I'm not sure of it's exact location in ME, but in 98 you will need to doube-click on the Internet Tools, then select Internet Connection Sharing tehn click OK. Have a floppy handy, it will put a program on it.

6)When it is finished, put the floppy in the other comp, and run the program that was installed on the floppy.

7) On the MODEM computer, right click on Internet Explorer -> Properties -> Connection -> Sharing and make sure that the computer accepts which network source is the source of the internet, and which is the source of the local network.

That's it, you *should* now be able to browse the internet from both computers at the same time.

If you do NOT have a USB connection, you will need a second Network Card on the MODEM computer, and run the cable from the modem into one NIC, then another cable from the other NIC to the HUB. Just make sure you remember which is which for the ICS!

HTH, post back with any issues, I'll do my best!

The best way to share a singel internet connection is to use Gateway software. This software share your internet connection with mulitiple computer. Download this software from entire homepage and install it on one of the computer, but remember you must have HUB or switch if not you can install tow nettwork card in one computer on that you did install wingate software.

Take a look at this homepage http://wingate.deerfield.com/
