I am in real trouble. I want to have dual boot with WinNT and Win 98.I have one hard disk of 20GB. After reading a lot material from here, I fomated my primary disk as 16 bits. I have made Extended partions and then logical in it. All drives are formated as 16 bit. I have successfully installed Win 98 on C. When I try to install Win NT, it first copies files on drive c. Then it ask to restart. When it comes to option of installing NT in drives, it shows first four drives. One primary and other 3 logical. It shows remaining space unpartitioned. In fron of four partion it says:
"Unformatted or damaged"
When I try to install in any one of them then it says that you need to format drive c. First I said I don't want to format c then it says Win NT is not able to install. If I say format c then it says that some error happend so exit setup and restart. When I restart computer it gives me option of running win Nt and win 98. If I choose Win nt then it shows a strang vertical lines showing preinstalled files. I don't know what to do? I know that we can install Win NT when we format under 16 bit but I am not able to do so. Please help me.

You keep saying 16 bit. Is the C partition FAT16 or FAT32? What is the size of the C partition?

I also tried to do a multi-boot machine, on a AMD K6, with a hard of 3.2GB and it came
out fine. This is the way, i have done it:
firstly, I set up the disk, also with four partitions, each of them is FAT16. Formatted the C (1.7G) with an old format, so it made it FAT16 (and the rest too). Don't forget to add /s in the paramter list for C:.
Then installed Windows NT on the second (350 meg) partition. It just installed fine, after configuring and adding users and all the rest, it came out with a boot menu, where I had also Previous operating system on drive C or something like this. I started that, it gave me a simple DOS prompt, and then I have installed the Win98.
It works fine, with no problems at all.
Good Luck.
Fritz

The First partition needs to be FAT16 (non-large disk support) Then, leave the rest unformatted so that Windows NT Setup can format it into a NTFS format becuase NT needs to be on a NTFS formated disk. With the rest of the space, you can do whatever you want (Install Linux, use Fat32, etc.) If you use Fat32 on the remaining space and you want to access it from Windows NT, you need to download a program that allows NT to read Fat32 formats. Good luck,
Nate
