Ok, here's my whine:
I work for a government agency and we recently were forced to go in and change the machine name for each individual machine (groan). This would affect printers, shared folders, whatever you can think of, it's happened.
Ok, now here's the BIG problem.
There's a couple of archaic DOS-based programs that they use here in the office (no other alternative). To print before, i had a bat file made up that used the Net Use command, something like:
net use lpt1: \\machinename\printer's shared name
I edited that batch file to reflect the machine's new name...but guess what. No Printing!!!! I even deleted the bat file, and re-installed the printer (coincidentally an HP 8100N with a jet direct card), no go.
I rebooted completely, I even turned the machine off. Nothing.
I type inNet Use lpt1:
and it gives me some info on the port. It is STILL looking for the OLD machinename and the OLD printer! It says the printer's status is disconnected (well, obviously, it was deleted).
I did a search on the entire disk for any *.bat files, nothing else points it to that machine. There is NOTHING even resembling that in the autoexec file!
I am getting fire breathed down upon me here by some higher ups...is there ANYONE that can help me here??!?!?!?!? PLEASE answer pronto !

Maybe a stupid one but probably your stress reliefer
FIRST !!!!
net use lpt1 / d ( to delete the old connection !!)THAN !!!
net use lpt1 \\newserver\newprintername
