trying to change win nt to win 98. had to reinstall win nt to bypass pword (employee left unexpectedly). partitioned hard drive, installed nt4 on C. put in 98 startup disk and get message "NTLDR not found". can start up in DOS with a win 95 startup disk, but I don't know how to install from dos. any advise will be appreciated. am I going in the right direction?
Thank you in advance for any help!!

Not aquite clear on what you want to?
Do you want ot install '98 only and have no NT presence; or do you want to set up a dual-boot NT/'98?
Perhas post back with clarification, and also details of drive config at this time _ especially if wanting dual-boot, or not wanting to start afresh...
Also it wasn't really necessary to reformnat the drive after 'losing a password' (employee departed...); unless this was a security issue, i.e. privacy of employees data etc. on the drive; there are ways around this 'irritation' and they don't all cost $$$/£££'s

I am looking to run Win 98 only and would like to remove NT completely.
Where do I get drive config info?
Didn't know how to get around pword. When I started looking for ways...everything I found was more than company was willing to spend.
Thanks again for any advise!

Boot with a '98 bootdisk; run Fdisk and inspect partitions; it will display the partition info as it applies to your drive. You can also delete partitions via this util; and recreate them; and (re)format them using Format (both utils are on the '98 boot-dsik).
Fdisk tutorials - as it sounds a little as though you may find them useful?
http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q255/8/67.ASP
and
http://www.compguystechweb.com/index.html
(also has other useful info too...)
Also visit Bob's site at:
http://www.btinternet.com/~robert.bale1/formatinstall.htm
covers Fdisk etc; also installing '98.
Saves going through it all here; and you will have an on-line resource if needed?
Note: if NT has ntfs partitions then they show up as non-DOS partitions via Fdisk.
Fdisk will 'not' remove ntfs from an Extended partition area; it will remove ntfs from the Primary partition.
If you have ntfs in an Extended partition then you either run NT setup and choose to delete all partitions, then close out and reconfigure drive for '98 using a '98 boot-disk; or use the NT3.1 Resource Kit util " delpart.exe ". This is a freebie download util (27K); fits on a floppy; is run from a DOS prompt.
You boot up with a DOS/'9x boot-disk and at the a: prompt change floppy to the delpart one and run the util. (Or copy the util to the 'boot-disk and run from there - at the prompt; saves a disk change.)
Delpart at:
http://hercules.lss.ksu.edu/download/MSSTUFF/index.htm
Delpart will remove just about any partition - permanently!
For future referrence - re passwords... check out:
http://www.computing.net/windowsnt/wwwboard/forum/17360.html
gives you various options.
Also Admin. should have been able to reset/change the password (when the emloyee left)? If an employee forgets their password, then that's a standard routine?
Are you in the UK or where?

Computer won't boot with 98 boot disk. Get message that says "OS load in progress.... NTLDR is missing Press any key to restart". Partitons are all FAT.
I am admin (here all that means is I know a little more about computers than anyone else, and am not afraid to explore and look for answers. Saves the company quite a bit in software support.) The computer I'm working on is from an old system, and no one here remembered the admin pword.
I'm in the US.
Will check out some of those links.
Thanks

Possibly boot-sequence is set to C: then A: and this means it looks to the hard-drive first, then the floppy. If it finds evidence of an installed OS, then it will attempt to boot to it.
Boot up and go into bios settings and reset boot-sequence to A: then C: . Save changes and close out; insert '98 boot-disk and and reboot (hopefully) to the A: drive...? Then proceed as above?
Posst back if more help needed?
