Comment:

I installed nt 3.1 from a cd, but after installing it, it does not detect any cd-rom drives, can someone tell me how to configure a cd-rom drive, or if there are any generic drivers I could use?

wow, never heard that one before! You really mean to say that it detected your scsi cdrom, installed off the cd,and now cant see it?.
Truth be known, nt31 is pretty limited as to the cdroms it supports, only scsi adapters (no ide interfaces)and not many of those at that.
You might want to check a file on the boot floppy (or in the i386 directory on the cd) called txtsetup.sif (you'll have to use whatever viewer you can, its just a text file).it lists all the cdroms that nt31 supported. If yours isn't listed in there you might have been prompted to 'configure additional' adapters -the most likely (well, only) spot on the cd is , i believe , in a directory called storage\x86.
If your cdrom is in there you just copy the contents of the directory with your drivers onto a floppy so nt can read it and it'll load it and your fine.
if its not there i have no idea how nt installed off a cd! except whatever your smokin id like too :)
seriously, up until recently the only spot to obtain ide cdrom drivers for nt31 was channel 1 filelibrary (they had what must've been over 500 megs of nt31 stuff) but they pulled the plug :(
if you look realllly hard you might find something somewhere else but dont count on it- i know, i had most of them, and had nt31 just a cookin' with ide support and soundblaster 16 drivers too!
lost them all in a drive crash.....
havent been able to replace a single one since!
Best of luck

hey, good news! If youve got a soundblaster card with the cdrom attatched to it, ive got your NT31 drivers for you...thought i had 'em somewhere, was sure i lost 'em tho....
They're specifically for nt31, support sb pro, 2, and sb16, and any creative cdrom attached to the card.
Also comes with the wave studio and midisynth, and mixer!
Since im absolutely *positive* that these are available nowhere else you'd best drop me a note.....
Im definately gonna reinstall NT31 (i replaced it w351 'cuz i was doin some testing for pcfreak...) and now i've got net again i'll make it the advanced server this time!!
Now if only there were s3virge drivers for NT31....
