Can't reinstall Win 98 or Win 95. I keep getting an A20 HARDWARE ERROR

Comment:
I boot using the standard Win 98 boot disk (with CD ROM support). If I try to install Win 98, just after it starts to install (but before I get to the bit where I ebter a serial number) it freezes with a small black rectangle appearing in the middle of the screen.
The same happens if I try with Win 95, except I get to the agreement screen, click 'Yes I agree' and then it crashes back to DOS and says
"A20 HARDWARE ERROR - CONTACT TECHNICAL SUPPORT"
I have uninstalled and reinstalled Win 98 loads of times so whats going on ?? HELP !!!

How old is your PC? What type of processor? Check the boot disk and remove some the memory management command in config.sys, (make a copy of the disk first and use the copy). Have you created partition on your drive using FDISK? Are they formatted?
Is it a clean install?, is there anyone on the harddisk?

The A20 error is a keyboard error. Either you have a bad keyboard controler or windows does not like it at all. Try to do a warm reset (control-alt-delete) and see if the error continues to show up. If it still occures then you would be wise to replace the motherboard.
