I have a problem with a machine running Windows NT 4.0 and Office 2000. When I open the file from inside the application (open Excel or Word first) I can see the file perfectly. If Excel or Word is not launched and I click on the file from Windows Exporer I get a message "Cannot find file (or one of its components). Check to ensure the path and filename are correct and that all required libraries are available." and launches the application but doesn't open the file. I've checked the file associations and have compared to similar machines and everything is identical. I disenabled DDE and the error message goes away, the program launches and the file doesn't open. I've run a "repair" on Office 2000 and reloaded the SP6a service pack update from Microsoft for NT 4.0. Please any suggestions would be wonderful!!!!Thanks!!!
Easily fixed. Launch Excel and go to Tools, Options. Click on the General tab and take the chekmark out of "Ignore Other Applications. Close Excel and you're all set.
I suspect it gets changed from a hotfix or service pack but I can't say for sure. Since Excell and Word use macros, it's probably a security issue so other programs can't control the macros to do damage to the OS. Personaly, I've never seen an issue with macros but you never know. Someone is always coming out with new ways to hose up your system..
