I needed to disable all start up services to install a certain software. windows nt doesnt have a msconfig but i downloaded two files that you put into your system dir. in order to get that msconfig screen. I disabled everything but now when i log on to windows it wont let me change users. the screen with the dropdown menu appears but its shaded out and wont let me into it. the default user thats in the box is not the administrator so i cant change the msconfig to load normally. when i go to users and passwords in the control panel and try to log on to the administrator it says "user options could not be started with the supplied user information." please help!!???

Possibly: you could run set-up (CD or floppies boot) and opt for a repair - allow it to inspect/repair everything (especially system files) of current installation (if you have the ERD use it). This may resolve the access problem and allow you back in; afterwhich you can 'start' again... An upgrade may also allow you back in...? You may have to re-apply current SP, but most other items 'should' remain OK. If neither work (i.e. you're still 'stuck' with the user account you don't want - and can't get to Admin...), then if you can access\delete the SAM file (winnt\system32\config\SAM), you should then able to reboot and gain a fresh Admin log-on etc... All user accounts will have been deleted... If that fails (you can't access the SAM) then post back there are a couple of other routes that may/will allow you back in but it's a little more detailed. I may have to post you a link to one, and detail the other here (or email it to you)... Also there are utils that would allow you to gain (full) access (sysinternals.com) but the read/write versions do cost; the read-only are freebie. Post back with how you get on with the above; also include details of drive(s) partitions sizes/formats - useful to have for more help.

I have upgraded to windows xp from my old windows ME because i thought the taskbar would look different but nothing happened after installing xp. I installed style xp but still nothing happened. I really wanna change the skins of the task bar to give it a new look. I tried changing the themes but it says that the themes service was not running and i can turn it on in the control panel: computermanagement administrative tool. I tried opening it but nothing happens when i click the buttons in it after i open it. Somebody please help me...
