cannot delete files off of server!

Comment:
For some reason, there is one folder on the server that I cannot change of the files in. Files in the subdirectories can be deleted/changed, same withthe parent directory. But not this one directory. When I try to delete it from my workstation, i get the error 'Cannot delete xfilenamex: Access is denied. The source file may be in use.' I tried to delete the file directly from the server, and it didn't work. I rebooted the server, and immediately upon getting back into windows, I tried again, same error. So if someone knows what is causing this and how I can fix it, I would greatly appreciate it!

Are you sure no other users or computers are using those files? Are you sure the servers operating system is not using those files?

To test it out, I copied a random file from my computer to the folder I was talking about, and immediately tried to delete it, and it still wouldn't delete. I am positive that no users were connected to it or using it.

try the folliwng
1. Go to the file proprties. Check what the size it, if the size is 0 bytes.. tha means the file are corupt.
2. Go to the file properties, the security tab, and lcick permissions. If it tells you acess denied, mostly likely the file are currupt.
3. Check if the security settings are set right, if not take oweerrship of the folder.
4. Check if the file names of some files are no longer them 25 letters.
5. Check that the folder is not shared or map drived.

I resolved the problem. The permissions on the folder were corrupted somehow. My guess is that we are running and NT 4 server, but 2000 workstations, so when a 2000 workstation creates a folder on the server, there is some incompatibility which causes the permissions to get corrupted. Thanks for the help Alex.
