I cannot connect the server using a network installation boot disk from a clean computer.
I try A:\net use z: \\server\i386
The workstation service is not started.
is it ok to start it? y/n Y
ERROR 8 there is not enough memory available

What is wrong here?!

thanks Mike,

I reinstalled SP5 on the server, reformatted the disk again on the remote computer, it doesn't help.

Netbind OK
Dos TCP/IP OK

When net use z: \\server\i386
The workstation service is not started.
is it ok to start it? y/n y
ERROR 8 there is not enough memory available

I don't know which entries I have to remove from the registry? I have to do this?

Thanks again!

I had a very similar issue. This would only occur on one make/model of PC (Gateway GP^-350). Try going in to the bios of your PC and ensuring BIOS is set to default settings. Then go through and disable any devices in bios that you won't need. I Wound up having to create a boot disk using IPX instead of IP. THis worked because IPX takes up much less memory than IP. email me if you would like me to send you a zip copy of my disk to use as an example.

any virus routines running on the 'new' machine at boot/start-up? Some systems come with a BIOS enabled anti-virus routine...

Go into BIOS setting, check and disable the virus routine if found active?

This problem sounds more like you need to look at the boot disk not switch to IPX or reinstall SP5 or 6 for that matter.

Look at the autoexec.bat or config.sys, where you specify command.com try setting the command.com environment size by using the /E switch do a /? on it for help.

Good Luck

I had the same problem until I added this line to my config.sys file:
devicehigh=a:\net\emm386.exe noems

The network client administrator does not add this line - you must add it manually! Try it.
