I've just aquired this oldish computer, and thinking 2000 would be too slow on it, and also wanting to keep away from 9.x, i installed a copy of NT 4.0 Workstation i had lying around. I also put on SP6 and IE6 SP1.
Problem is, it can't access the internet over my LAN from my XP machine, using ICS. The computers are certainly seeing each other because I can browse the shares on the XP box from NT.
I've set the default gateway to 192.168.0.1 and the subnet mask to 255.255.255.0 and everything else is correct.
I have two other 2000 machines which connect perfectly. What am I doing wrong?
The XP PC needs to have ICS configured that installs the DHCP server. NT4 SP6 install IE4/5/6 and use the new connection wizard to receive the internet connection over a LAN using defaualts, ensuring your NIC TCP/IP properties are set to receive an address automatically.
