Subject: Can I increase the size of C:\ on NT4.0?
Comment:

When I installed NT4.0 on the server, for some reason, only 1.0GB was assigned for the operation system (C:\). After loading NT and some shared files for other programs (I had to install all my programs on D: drive), I only got 280 MB left on C: drive. Is it possible to increase the size of C? I have another small 500 MB partition drive G: that is on the same logical drive (same array, I have 3 18.4 GB hard drives set up with RAID level 5). Can I merge the empty 500 MB drive G to C since they are on the same array?

Thanks.

Judy

I made the same stupid mistake with an Adaptec AAA131 RAID. 1 GB was quite a lot
some years ago. It's not possible to increase a RAID partition, sorry. Maybe
Vortex controllers support this feature, but I doubt it.
Even a migration from NT 4.0 to Windows 2000 is not possible, as far as I know.

you will not be able to have a "merged" drive or volume set in MS terms. the boot and system volume cannot be volume setted together. You can try partition magic to remove the 500M drive and resize the C:\ drive. or move your data file to the 13.? G RAID. whatever that other guy said resizing RAID partitions is nonsense. RAID can be ether hardware or software, such a broad statement as his is incorrect. You can always backup to tape and reinstall everything on a fresh 1.5 G partition and have a data on that level 5 of yours

Hello Judy, No it's not possible to increase your C: partition from NT alone. You will need a software like Partition Magic to do so.
